PENRITH Swimming Club youngsters travelled to Workington on Sunday for the sprint league B final where they took on the host club along with Copeland, Carlisle Water Polo and Troutbeck Bridge.

PENRITH Swimming Club youngsters travelled to Workington on Sunday for the sprint league B final where they took on the host club along with Copeland, Carlisle Water Polo and Troutbeck Bridge.

At the end of an exciting evening, Penrith were placed third with 169 points having won nine events in total.

Chloe Wilson took first place in the 17 years and over 50m breaststroke in 36.25sec, 17 years freestyle in 29.9 and 14 to 16 years 50m freestyle in 30.62.

Danny Smith was also on form, winning the 17 years and over breaststroke in 34.18 and 14 to 16 years 50m breaststroke in 35.08, while Colin Slee took the 14 to 16 years 50m backstroke in 33.31.

Three Penrith teams were also first to the line: the 14 to 16 boys’ 4x25m butterfly (Danny Smith, Stewart Marshall, Jeff Marshall and Colin Slee); the 14 to 16 boys’ 4x25m freestyle (Danny Smith, Jeff Marshall, Stewart Marshall and Colin Slee); and the 17 years girls’ 4x25m backstroke (Helen Frith, Emma Knowles, Chloe Wilson and Rebecca Robinson).

The previous evening, Penrith held the second round of their club championship where the winners were: 25m freestyle seven years, girls Elizabeth Sykes; boys Aaron Wharton. Eight years, girls Hannah Jones; boys Ben Lydon. 25m breastroke nine years, girls Sophie Bradbury; boys Aaron Pamphellon. 50m backstroke 10 years, girls Amy Furness; boys Martin Heath.

4x25m individual medly, girls Amy Furness; boys Martin Heath. 100m breastroke, girls Laura Huggon; boys Allan Armstrong. 100m butterfly, girls Naomi Smith; boys Jason Heath. 100m freestyle, girls Naomi Smith; boys Stewart Marshall.
